These are both well-known artistes who will be doing a two-hour show full of music that plucks at the heartstrings and tickles the funny bone.  Guitarist and singer songwriter Ken Nicol is best known for his days in Albion Band and Steeleye Span.  Phil Cool, the famed comedian and impressionist, returns to his roots as a singer and songwriter, although you can be sure there will plenty of fun and laughter, too.

JULY 28TH – ERIC BOGLE & JOHN MUNRO
(http://ericbogle.net/)

Don’t miss this opportunity to see Eric Bogle and John Munro on their farewell tour together: ‘Waltzing Matilda No More’.  They first teamed up in 1980 and have been touring the World together ever since.  Many of Eric’s songs are now classics and have been recorded by the likes of Joan Baez, Mary Black and The Furies.  John is also a fine songwriter and last performed at Dartford as a member of the band Colcannon.  Their concerts are usually sold out.  So come early!

Spectacular Sunsets Caused by Volcano in Russia

Russian Volcano makes for Spectacular Sunsets

The Russian volcano that erupted directly beneath the International Space Station on June 12th is now causing beautiful lavender sunsets across parts of the northern USA and Europe.  A plume of ash and sulfur dioxide from the Sarychev Peak eruption is circulating through the stratosphere,  and when parts of the plume pass over an area at sunset, the sky fills with delicate white ripples, sometimes-colorful streamers, and a telltale hue of purple.  Check today's photos on Flickr for picture of the amazing sunsets, all due to the volcano that erupted in Russia.

Upload your music onto Spotify

Dear Artists,

First of all; we are really glad to hear that you are interested
in getting your music onto Spotfiy.

We appreciate your patience since you signed up to the Spotify
Artist and Label list. The reason why we haven't gotten back to
you earlier is that we haven´t been ready to launch our own
uploading-platform.  Our time and energy has gone into uploading
thousands of tracks every day from our existing partners which
is a continuous process. However, getting independent artists
music onto Spotify is important to us so we're working on various
solutions to assist artists.

The current solutions we offer indie artists offer are CDBaby,
Ditto Music and Record Union. They are artist- aggregators, who
we've recently made an agreement with, and we highly recommend to
you as a method to get your music onto Spotify.  With them you
can create a standard agreement and upload your music onto
Spotify as well as deliver your music to other great services
such as 7digital and Amazon.

So if you want to join Spotify as soon as possible we strongly
recommend you to go one of the following sites:

http://cdbaby.com/

http://www.dittomusic.com/

http://www.recordunion.com/

We're really looking forward to having your music on Spotify soon!

Regards,

The music team at Spotify

Havering Folk Club News

Hi all,

Peter here once again.

Havering Folk Club News

Last Wednesday
Another great night last Wednesday with eighteen floor spots including
two and a half virgins!

In order of appearance we saw Foxen, Rockin' Bob Cash, Myself, Andy Roberts, Pep &
Terry, Margaret Brown, Dennis Homes, our first virgin of the evening,
Tony Brown who gave us an unaccompanied "Summertime";' a terrific
voice and interpretation well received by the very full house.

Tony was followed by Mick & Nora or as MC Richard Webb insisted, Nora
& Mick, then our half-virgin Paul; half-virgin because although he's
visited us previously he's not performed for us before.

We then saw Bernie & Maureen Pilgrim, Len Reeder, another virgin,
Fanny Feeney, the first lutenist we've seen at HFC. Specialising in
Renaissance and Baroque music, she is an excellent player with a
lively personality. Big Bob was up next, followed by Helen Islip, Dave
Worley and finally Simon Oliver - and better than that you can hardly
get!

Cardiff Singer of the World
I'm not much of a one for watching television as there seems to be so
much dross on it, but tomorrow night I'll be glued to BBC 2 from 5.30
- 8pm when the final of the Cardiff Singer of the World Competition is
broadcast live. This biannual event is a can't miss as far as Gill and
I are concerned. A totally different style of singing of course, but
wonderful stuff.

Round and About
Sue Tuckey tells me that her "Folk at the Foresters" sessions on
Monday evenings are going well, but a few more faces and voices would
be welcome. This session takes place every Monday from 8.30pm at The
Foresters, 235 Dartford High Rod., Wilmington, DA2 7BU.

July 4th sees Rainham Folk Day at The Oast Community Centre. Sue
didn't give me an address so presumably you can't miss it if you go to
Rainham(?). That's the Kentish Rainham by the way, not the Essex one.
She and Trevor are performing in their Tone Deaf Leopard persona as
well as many other well-known performers. The daytime session is free
with an evening concert featuring John Barden which is only £3.00.
More details on 01634 376072 or 372048.

And a reminder, if any were needed, that the Leigh Folk Festival runs
from on 21st - 28th June and is the largest free folk festival in the
country. There are numerous sites featuring music, dancing, workshops,
childrens' entertainment etc. Lots for everyone. Go to www.leighfolkfestival.co.uk
for the full programme. See ya there.

Back to HFC
We've two more open sessions this month, Wednesday 17th and 24th,
another on Wednesday July 1st, then Wednesday July 8th we look forward
to the return of our guest artists, Vicki Swan & Jonny Dyer.

Lots to look forward to at HFC, so Make it a date - Wednesday at eight!

Cheers - Peter

The Wreckers Prayer

Hi,

I heard your song, “The Wreckers Prayer”and I am very impressed with it. We are currently
working on a compilation CD titled “Goin Back Home”. It will feature
Folk artists from around the world. I believe that your song would be
a perfect fit on this project and I would be honored to have you take
part.

My name is Matt Szalecki and I am a project manager with Quickstar
Productions, as well as a musician. Quickstar Productions is a company
that specializes in designing music-marketing campaigns and supplying
digital distribution services for record labels and independent
artists. In 2005, Quickstar Productions released its first Comp CD as
a way to promote unsigned artists. This CD was extraordinarily
successful in accomplishing its mission! Over the years the company
has built off that success and perfected a marketing plan to maximize
exposure for the artist. Quickstar Productions is based out of
Baltimore, MD and is an active member of the Maryland Better Business
Bureau.

“Goin Back Home” will be marketed and made available in the following ways:

1. PHYSICAL SALES: You will receive 50 copies of the CD to sell at
whatever price you choose. These will be professionally produced,
retail ready CD’s. We recommend selling them for $8. That way you can
make $400. You keep 100% of your sales. This is a great way to get
more merchandise to sell at your shows and also a way to target other
fans in your genre. The idea is that when each artist sells their 50
copies, the other artists on the CD will have their music exposed to
other fans of your genre of music. Your song will be exposed to
many new listeners.

2. DIGITAL SALES: The compilation will be made available for sale in
all digital stores including iTunes, Rhapsody, Wal-Mart, Napster, and
Amazon. Your song will also be available as a ringtone that your fans
may purchase. You will receive 50% of profits generated.

3. EXPOSURE: The CD will be sent to record labels, marketing, and
management firms. Along with the CD, a booklet featuring your picture
and bio will be made available so they can learn a little bit more
about you. In addition, free promo copies will be handed out at
concerts in the Baltimore/Washington area. Quickstar Productions will
also promote the album by using MySpace and banner ads.

4. RADIO: The CD will be sent to college and internet radio stations
and be featured on various podcasts throughout the world.

5. NETWORKING: Developing a network with other musicians is key to
ones success. This comp CD is a chance to do so. You will be provided
with all the other artists information before the CD is released so
that you can start show swapping with one another, networking and
helping each other out

To have your song included on our upcoming compilation CD please visit
our website, QuickstarProductions com download the submission forms.
We do not charge a fee to be on “Goin Back Home” but we do ask that
you purchase 50 CD’s to distribute at cost ($155). This will be the
only cost to you. One of the most important parts of this project is
getting the CD into the hands of fans. The more CD’s that you are able
to distribute the more exposure everyone gets.

Please check out QuickstarProductions com for more info on this
compilation. Since we plan to release this CD in the Summer of 2009,
we ask that all submissions be returned by July 1st. Please feel free
to contact me anytime if you have any questions. I look forward to
working with you.

Take care,
Matt Szalecki

PS. Please check out one of the past editions of another acoustic CD
that we have put out titled “Chill Out: East Coast Edition” on iTunes,
